Other Activities
Here's a sampling of the types of activities we have going on year 'round:
Girls from our Rochester Girls’ Center took the show on the road. During
April School Vacation this talented cast and crew traveled to spread the message
of girl power through the themes of their plays “Carla and the Greed Merchant” and “The
Fair Godmother’s Assistant.”
Our middle school girls ran a store within the center. The girls started their business with $50.00. They determined inventory, expenses and profit. With their earnings the girls reinvested some in their business and used the rest to go out once a month with staff to the movies, dinner, or girl’s night. Girls learned how to understand fundamentals of running a business, working as a team to allocate jobs, maintaining inventory, pricing of items to make money but low enough to sell, competition of other businesses, in this case the vending machine in the hallway. And most importantly the girls learned the rewards of their hard work and earnings.
