Girls Inc. She Votes

The 2008 election is in full swing, and with it comes Girls Inc. She Votes—our civic engagement initiative that empowers girls to envision themselves as future voters, candidates, and officeholders. It is a thrill for Girls Inc. to once again dedicate our expertise and network of local advocates to help inspire civic responsibility and leadership in girls. Girls Inc. She Votes for 2008 has two goals:

• Engage girls in the elections so that they will be more likely to vote and be active citizens as adults.

• Give girls the skills and attitudes to see themselves as future candidates for public office.

Girls Inc. She Votes Mock Election

Mark your calendars! The She Votes Mock Election will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. We will set aside time and space on this day to provide girls with the experience of voting for actual candidates in an election. Practicing voting now, as well as researching candidates and learning about registration, will help girls be ready to vote when they turn 18. Our goal is have 3000 Girls Inc. girls vote in the She Votes Mock Election (up from 2200 in 2004), with even more voting online.
